- Face the scoop of the needle in the direction
you intend to start and keep in an upright position.
-
- Push the needle into the fabric as far as
it will go (so the handle of the needle touches the fabric). The needle
must be pushed all the way in on each stitch to make an even pile.
-
- Lift needle out of fabric, just enough to
move to next stitch. You must keep the needle as close to the material
as possible. Lifting the needle too high shortens the loops on the
front of the design and creates unwanted loops on the back.
-
- At first the loop look quite untidy, but they
will look a lot better once you have started to fill in the design.
A little tip to make them look neater, is to leave the equivalent
of one row of stitches between the outling and the filling in. This
will make the (outline) loop stand up and not get mingled in with
the filling in colour.
- An alternative to punching your outlines,
you could also outline your design with Fabric paint (Sequin black
is code 23437) on the right side of your fabric. This not only looks
neater, but at the same time is sealing the outer stitches ready for
using as an applique.
